Zanheadgear 41100 Series Dive Watch (Red) Review

I ordered this watch as a temporary replacement for my Luminox, which I'm sending in for repair (I've had it 10+ years and all I've done is put batteries in it - thought it was time for a new bezel, crystal, etc). I saw a one-star review on this watch and hesitated to purchase, but I figured worst-case it would be DOA and I could just return it.

The Watch arrived 2 days after purchase (Yay, Amazon!). Very well packaged (box and air bags about 4x bigger than the watch box); the watch box contents were the watch and the little compass, both well-secured. Watch comes with the crown pulled out (so not to waste battery) and a little white plastic doohicky under the crown to keep it open. Also, the back and crystal are both covered with a thin plastic film to protect them. I removed the doohicky, snapped the crown down and the watch began running. I let it run for a couple of minutes to make sure there was no problem with the second hand (like another reviewer reported) and made sure the minute hand moved -- All OK.

The crown is dual-position: pull out one click to change the date only; all the way out to change time (Hint: when changing time, run the hour hand past 12 and see if the date changes, so you'll know if its AM or PM). I set time on it to match my Luminox, and they've been a dead-on match ever since (a couple of weeks now). I use the bezel (turns counter-clockwise only) for point-to-point trekking times, for hiking and other activities; no prblems with looseness or floating yet.

I'm not sure how that compass would fit on that band, because of the width of the band near the watch vs the width of the compass. I guess it could stay nearer the buckle but that seemed awkward. I don't use the stock band anyway, so for me, it was a moot point... The compass is reasonably accurate; it may miss by a couple of degrees, but it's fine for what it is. When I need nth degree and declination accuracy, I have a Silva SightMaster for that.

Nobody that knows Luminox will mistake this for a real Navy SEAL watch; the logo on the face is too silvery and the watch face itself is way too shiny. Also, you do need to "charge" the luminous material with a bright light for a few minutes if you're going to need to see the numeral markers and hands in the dark (like in a hunting blind or on a Night Ops mission). But for the under-$40 price I paid for it, it's a nice-looking, well-functioning watch.
