SYNC Elite Activity Tracker Review

A basic pedometer that saves seven days of step data costs $30. So for ten dollars more - the SYNC Elite will upload data into my iPad, and it stores 30 days of data on board!... Plus it tracks other data such as calories burned, miles walked, activity timer, walking speed (minutes per mile), fat grams burned, and it has a chronometer. The unit is easy to set up (like a watch) and the LCD display is easy to read. (Some of the higher end units don't have a display at all - so you have to wait until you can plug them in to a computer or phone to check your data.) It uses the headphone jack to sync, which is OK but puts extra wear on the headphone jack. There are Bluetooth connected units, but they are much more expensive.

The original unit was defective and it's display went only halfway across the screen. I exchanged the unit and the new one's display works properly. Looking forward to testing this with my iPad. Note that there is an iPhone app, which runs on the iPad, but not one formatted for the iPad screen.

Update: the exchanged unit does sync but its tricky. when you plug the unit into the headphone jack the volume will be lowered, you need to push it all the way up before you sync.

With the original defective unit I was not able to get it to sync to an iPhone or iPad. I think the exchanged unit will probably work O.K... There is a version of the app for Android but it doesn't have the ability to sync with sensors like this one. "MapMyWalk" looks to be a third party app, so probably just a matter of time until they add the ability to sync with sensors. The price is great ... if I can get it to work!

The MapMyWalk app is really sweet and doesn't require a sensor at all. It takes the GPS location of the phone and maps your walk onto a Google Map. It can upload your workouts to FB or Twitter (immediately turned that OFF!)
