As with the Poolmate and Poolmate Pro, the Poolmate HR is a performance sports watch with fully automatic lap and stroke counter for swimmers. Features a vibrating watch alarm allowing you to swim more freely. Set the alarm to vibrate when you reach every X number of laps, any distance (meters or yards), or time frame. Great for keeping pace if, for example, you are targeting 90 seconds per 100 meters, setting it to vibrate every 90 seconds will help you know if you are on track. Heart rate Monitor- Most heart rate monitors are 2.4GHz and don't transmit under water- the Poolmate HR works at 122KHz which will work in water and land. The HR belt features a user replaceable CR 2032 battery. Download/Analyze - Includes USB pod which charges the watch and downloads the data to your Mac or PC. Recharge- The rechargeable battery is designed to last a few weeks at normal use on each charge.

I have been very happy with the 1st Poolmate series I purchased around 14 months ago, so I decided to step it up to the new Poolmate HR. I've been using the new Poolmate HR for around 3 weeks now and within that time, the efficiency in my stroke has bumped up to the above average swimmer category. I've so enjoyed the vibrating feature on this watch; I no longer have to worry about counting laps in my head or even glancing at it to see what lap I'm on. I just swim and at every desired lap that I've programmed the watch to vibrate, it does and informs me just how many laps I've swam and how many more vibrates to complete my set of 64 laps. (My desired setting is vibrate at every 16 laps). My swim sets consist of 2 sets of 64 laps 3 times a week.
The heart rate strap was a little tricky at first, but I quickly learned to make sure I strapped it on very snug, thus with this feature I am able to get a more exact reading of how many calories I've burned according to my weight and age that was programmed into the watch. The software that comes with it has been very impressive, I've been able to see my entire swim by the numbers on my PC and it allowed me to focus where I needed help with being a better swimmer. Another plus from the watch verses any other is even though my 1st series watch battery life lasted around 14 months, before it had to be replaced, this one recharges itself through it's PC's software so it never needs replacing. As a Tri-athlete who swims around 6 miles a week in the pool, I've found that the Pool Mate HR has proven to be one of my most valuable tools in my training.

The Pros
1. The watch allows me to study all aspect of my swim on my PC including my stroke rate, length, calories burned, efficiency and so much more than I could ever imagine, they thought of everything.
2. The Chrome mode is helpful because when I'm training outside of the water, I can use it as a stopwatch EI with heart rate monitor for my runs and bicycle rides. It's great for brick workouts
3. Since I've been using the Poolmate HR not only has it helped me become a better swimmer, but also it's been fun and has added somewhat of an entertainment element to my long swims.
The Cons
The setup was a little tricky at first; but I've been known to be somewhat of an impatient guy. After I slowed down and read through the small booklet of information thoroughly, I got it dialed in.
