I purchased the AC Sport with mPower Sport computer. I did months of research on spin bikes, buying and returning a few in the process, and ended up buying the Schwinn having never actually tested one prior to purchase. However, it was exactly what I was looking for and the one I kept. I like to replicate outdoor riding as much as possible as opposed to doing actual spinning. This bike is not cheap and more than many spin bikes out there, but the quality and useable design are far superior any others I've tried, even some that are comparably priced.

This is a chain driven model, like all Schwinn spin bikes, and it has magnetic resistance, making the bike feel the most similar to an outdoor bike I have found in a spin bike. There is noise, like a normal outdoor bike would cause with a chain, but nothing turning up the TV volume a notch or two won't solve. If you want an idea of what it sounds like, take any ordinary outdoor bike, turn it upside down and spin the pedals. That is what this sounds like. If you want a completely silent bike, then this is not it.

This AC Sport has smart release for the flywheel. Its nice to have at home or when using the bike alone, but the feel can be slightly different than a normal spin bike at times. If you are pedaling like an outdoor bike, you won't even notice it. If you like to stand while doing spinning videos with low resistance, you may notice the smart release at times. However, the smart release can be adjusted and even turned off to make it a completely fixed wheel. The smart release tool does not come with the bike, but Schwinn has a video on their website which shows how to use a screwdriver instead.

The adjustment settings are good as well, allowing the bike to adjust in ways needed by the user, unlike some other high end bikes, i.e. Keiser, that don't allow you much useful adjustment. The Schwinn can be adjusted for seat and handlebar height, and both move fore and aft as well. There are only three settings each for the fore and aft, but I had no problem getting a good fit. Three seems like a limited number of settings, but when you consider that a road bike doesn't have them and you need to buy a different frame or stem to achieve this, its not much different. Also, a key adjustment is that the seat on the Schwinn moves fore and aft on its rails, allowing micro adjustments there as well.

The computer was a requirement for me, providing RPM, heart rate, calories and time, and allowing laps. Wattage and distance are an additional option with the Performance module upgrade which I don't have. I ride to videos that set parameters on RPM and heart rate, and the Sport computer provides all that I need.

Product support is excellent at both the Schwinn website and through numerous videos on youtube. Replacement parts are easy to find online and reasonably priced, though I have had no need for any yet. The only other spin bikes I'm aware of with comparable support might be the Spinning brand. Finding support or replacement parts for most spin bikes is next to impossible, let alone finding out what company actually made it.

This is a great indoor bike if you want to replicate outdoor riding without having your road bike on a trainer. I have found nothing else that compares, except the Schwinn AC Performance which is simply the aluminum framed version that costs more. If you want to just do spinning videos while pedaling fast at lower resistances, you may prefer a fixed wheel spin bike instead (such as the new Schwinn AC Performance Plus) or to disengage the smart release feature.

Update 8/14/13:

I ended up buying the wattage upgrade for the computer, and am very glad I did. It turns out I have been over compensating my training levels based on heart rate and the wattage feedback allows much better real time effort data. I am enjoying my rides even more and getting a better workout. I highly recommend getting the wattage upgrade if you are going to be using the AC Sport for any sort of training program or videos. If you only plan to use the bike casually, you probably don't need it, but if that is the case you are probably not going to want to spend $1,000+ on a spin bike either.
