Velocity Exercise Magnetic Upright Exercise Bike Review

I think this is a great exercise bike. It is fairly compact and we put it in the corner and drag it out when we want to use it. It is light enough that my wife can move it around. The magnetic resistance means that the pedaling is super quiet, which is great if you want to watch a movie or tv show while exercising. I have mine in the spare bedroom and watch netflix on my computer as I ride. Two "half hour" or one "one hour" show give me a great 45 minute workout.

Setup was pretty easy, but you have to be able to follow very terse directions (one sheet with 4 small pictures on it) and operate wrenches and screwdrivers. The provided tools are fine. If you can put together something from Ikea, this should be no problem. If you can't, find somebody who can. It took me less than an hour to go from the box to ready to ride.

The seat is fairly comfortable and can be adjusted depending on your height. I am 6' 2" and my wife is 5' 2" and we were both able to get comfortable heights. The pedals have rubber straps to hold your feet on them -- I liked this, but you can take them off if you don't. The computer is pretty basic and just tracks how long, distance and calories (and I probably wouldn't take them as gospel, but they should be useful ride to ride). You can also grip the handlebars and get your pulse. The control for the resistance is manual (no programs to simulates hills or keep a constant heart rate), but the mechanism works quite well and goes from easy to moderately resistance. My knee is not good and the first and second resistance worked well for me.

I also own Stamina 1300 Magnetic Resistance Upright Bike, which costs about $50 less. Is this bike worth the extra dollars? I think so. The cheaper bike required a seat cover before I could ride it without wincing. The seat adjustment lever in this bike is much easier to use. I like the straps on the pedals. Some people may like the heart rate monitor. The most important thing to me was actually the resistance control: I never realized how bad it was on the cheaper bike until I rode this one. This one is easily adjustable and really works well.
