SideWinder Pro XTREME, Forearm and Grip Strengthener #3 Review

Although I've been working out for over a decade, I consider myself to have fairly weak hands. Simply put, unless you put in the efforts in working out the small muscles in your hands, they will always be your weakest link. Over the last few months, I've been striving to develop functional hand strengths and I have included various hand workouts into my routines.

Initially I was a bit reluctant to purchase the Sidewinder mainly because I had bad experience with a similar product (brand name withheld) a few years ago. It took me some time, but I finally decided to give the Sidewinder a chance. I was very happy that I did. Here are my pros and cons:

PROS:

* Very very well-built. This thing is built like a tank and I'm sure it'll be a life-long investment. As a matter of fact, it comes with a lifetime warranty.

* A nice thick 2" handle to really make your hands work. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of thick handles.

* Adjustable tension. Even at the easiest level, you'll feel the burn after a minute of twisting and turning. I probably have many many years to go before I will hit the first "red line", which at this point, I can't even budge it. I like the fact that there are evenly spaced markings so you can progressively get stronger.

* Heavy - at 4+ pounds, you'll be working on other parts of your upper body

* Replace the typically wrist rollers - I've been using the wrist rollers to an extent. However, I don't feel that wrist roller are particularly effective since other parts of my body (e.g., shoulders) gives up before I could maximize my lower arm workout. In addition, the Sidewinder is much more flexible in terms of different ways to hit your forearm than the wrist roller.

CONS:

* Expensive - At $140+ dollars, this is not a cheap equipment by many people standard. If you don't mind sacrificing 0.5" handle thickness and the heavy weight, you could consider getting the Sidewinder Pro (non Xtreme) or even the Sportster version for cheaper at [...].

* Heavy - This is something that I'll be keeping at home to workout. There's no way I'll be carrying it in my suitcase for out-of-town workout.

* Break-in Period - the rubber handle sheds a little bit and leave black bits on your hands at the beginning. It also makes your hands smell pretty bad. Not a deal breaker for me though.

Gaiam Walking Fit Kit Pedometer Plus Audio CD (Entry Level) Review

I was very excited to get this, and it was fairly easy to set up, even if the directions are not clear. The door that covers the display is made of plastic, not very sturdy, and the door piece is what you use to clip it on your clothing. I'm amazed it hasn't broken, but so far is doing good....I was sure it would break but so far has not.
I never used the CD that came with it, so I cannot review that.
As far as the functions, it is very easy to see the readout and track your distance in kilometers, miles, and steps traveled.
My only real beef with this is the lack of distance traveled accuracy. Even on it's least sensitive setting, it still adds 1/4 more distance then what I actually traveled. Oddly though, it measures steps correctly when walking on carpeting or on an elliptical. At the track and on cement, plan on shaving off 1/4 of your distance to be semi accurate.
If you want to be encouraged by an overzealous pedometer, go for it. It's easy to use, and fairly comfortable.
If you want perfect accuracy, buy something else.

Magellan eXplorist 510 Waterproof Hiking GPS Review

This is the third Magellan i bought. This does everything you will ever need for Geocaching. It has much better downloading capabilities than the Sporttrak Pro. But Beware, to see the screen during the day outside you must have the brightness up the whole way. This uses batteries quick. The battery time listed is GREATLY overrated. A new set of batteries last about 4 hours. If you are going out for a full day of geocaching make sure you bring PLENTY of batteries.

Teeter Hang Ups EZ Up Inversion and Chin Up Rack with Healthy Back DVD Review

I wanted one of these for a long time. I just didn't know it. I always loved the Hangup Boots, but never bought them because I didn't want the big inversion table. Then I woke up one morning with a drive to get the boots and just find something (a jungle gym perhaps) to hang from. And then I saw this rack that hangs in your door. It was perfect! It installed easily in my studio doorway. It can be used for pullups or just something to stretch out with everytime I walk in and out of the room. Our daughter is constantly climbing on it and inadvertantly getting great exersise. I did get the inversion boots as well and try to find ten minutes a day to hang upside down. It gets blood to the brain and takes pressure off the spine. You can get a totally different work out being inverted. I highly recommend this to everyone, but especially fellow yogis. Yoga is great for working out back problems and this rack (paired with the Hangup boots) really helps with strengthening and lengthening the back. Cobra pose without a floor!

I am glad I didn't hessitate in getting this. I use it everyday.
